High Protein Mint Oreo Ninja Creami Ice Cream

Introducing: the high-protein Ninja Creami ice cream you are about to be obsessed with (I’ve been eating it every day and still not tired of it!) I know there are a million Ninja Creami recipes out there — I’ve tried a ton of them! From the moment I got my Ninja Creami, I was determined to crack the code and figure out how to make delicious ice cream that’s low calorie, high protein, uses clean ingredients, and doesn’t require lugging out (and cleaning) my giant blender!

I don’t mean to brag, but this is it: it’s actually thick and creamy, the sweetness is on point, it’s healthy and doesn’t require a boatload of sweetener, and it’s so quick and easy that you won’t mind making it every single day. I personally love the mint/Oreo combo, but if mint isn’t your thing, you can always use a different flavor of syrup (vanilla or white chocolate would be delicious as well!)

This healthy single-serving treat will satisfy your McFlurry cravings but without all the sugar, and an added bonus of around 30 grams of protein. It’s the perfect after-dinner dessert!

Why you’ll love this recipe:

  • High-protein
  • Low-calorie/Macro-friendly
  • Thick, creamy texture
  • No blender needed
  • No xanthan gum
  • Low or no sugar

Products used in this recipe:

Ingredients

Base:

4 oz Oikos  vanilla protein shake (or high-protein vanilla shake of choice)

4 — 5 oz milk (I use whole cow’s milk)

½ serving vanilla whey protein

1 tbsp peppermint flavoring syrup (I use ChocZero)

Generous pinch of salt

Extra sweetener to taste (see note 1)

Mix-ins/toppings:

2 chocolate sandwich cookies of choice (I use ChocZero; see note 2)

Directions

  1. Combine all the base ingredients in the Ninja Creami canister and blend with an immersion blender until smooth. You can also use a milk frother; I like  this one. If you use this method, make sure you mix it really well and let the foam settle before placing in the freezer.
  2. Freeze on a flat surface for about 24 hours.
  3. After it is fully frozen, remove the canister from the freezer and run the outside under hot water for 60 seconds.
  4. Place in the Ninja Creami and run on Lite Ice Cream. Check and hit respin if it still looks crumbly. Repeat if still super crumbly after the 2nd respin (I usually only need one respin).
  5. Remove the canister from the machine and, using a plastic knife (metal will scratch and ruin the canister), scrape down the sides until you no longer see frozen residue in the canister.
  6. Add one sandwich cookie to the middle and insert the canister into the machine again. Run on “mix-in.”
  7. Crumble the remaining cookie on top and enjoy!

Notes

  1. I use one tiny scoop of pure stevia powder. You’ll want to sweeten it a little more aggressively than you think, as freezing dulls flavor and sweetness. This amount of sweetness is perfect for me, as the stevia powder is very potent. (If you tend to not like stevia, this kind might be worth a try. It has a minimized aftertaste, and I think it works perfect for recipes like this! I’ve been using it for years.)
  2. The ChocZero chocolate sandwich cookies aren’t cheap, but they are so good in this recipe! They’re sugar-free (sweetened with monk fruit), and made with high-quality clean ingredients. I like to grab some, along with my other staples, when they have a sale!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Mine had icy chunks, how can I prevent that?

A: Make sure you thoroughly scrape down the sides after the last respin but before the mix-in cycle. Take the tub out so you can see better, and use a plastic knife so you don’t scratch the canister. It also helps to use the knife to stab around the bottom of the canister to break up any ice down there. And don’t skip running it under hot water for 60 seconds, which helps loosen the ice beforehand.

Q: Can this be made vegan or dairy-free?

A: You absolutely can try it with a vegan/dairy-free protein shake (I like Owyn), a plant-based milk, and a plant-based protein powder. Let me know how it turns out for you!

Q: Is this gluten-free?

A: Yes, all the ingredients in this recipe are gluten-free.

Q: Can I use other protein shakes, like Fairlife or Core Power?

A: Yes, most ready-to-drink protein shakes should work! You may just need to adjust the sweetness.
