Baby-led weaning can seem intimidating when you get started. But there are so many benefits once you get in your groove! I wanted to share a baby-led weaning hack that helped me get in my groove and have baby-ready foods on hand with very little effort.
Many foods, like bananas and yogurt, are already ready to go for baby. But what about the ones that are rock-hard and need to be cooked what seems like forever to get them nice and soft?
Let me change your life with two words: mini crockpot.
Yes, a large one will work fine as well. But a mini crockpot is perfect for baby-led weaning foods because it is less of a hassle to use and clean, while being the perfect size to store in your fridge for later.
Below are some ideas for foods you can throw right in the crockpot. Just wash them well, add water, set the crockpot to high (or low if you have more time) and check in a couple of hours! Of course, cooking time varies depending on the food and amount you choose. Thankfully, it’s very forgiving and pretty hard to mess up.
Before cooking, fill the crockpot with water about half full for most foods, but for foods like lentils and quinoa you’ll want to make sure it’s WELL covered, or it may evaporate and burn on the bottom (learned that one from experience.)
Note: I have not done dry beans this way. They require special steps, including soaking overnight.

Always check if the food is smashable with a fork or between your fingers before serving. The safest way to serve a particular food depends on your baby’s age and development.
